30th June 2021
Dear General Secretary and President Xi Jinping,
We write to you today on behalf of thousands of foreign students of China.
First, we would love to felicitate the centenary of founding Communist Party of China. We, the students admire the exceptional milestones and feats, the party has accomplished in the past century. It is no secret; your wise and strong leadership of the Community Party of China (CPC) has been a decisive factor for the achievements in the last decade. The dedication of CPC to the well-being of humankind has been exhibited at its best during darkest hours of the pandemic and beyond, and on this account we the students have no iota of doubt to say out loud that CPC is indeed a pillar of scientific and technological development made by the people of China. Undeniably, the CPC is not only a role model but also a beacon of hope to the other countries in pursuit of their own development.
On this occasion, we are reminded by the powerful words of then Vice President Xi Jinping in 2010 “I hope that everyone after their studies will become friendly emissaries who know and are friendly with China, building communication bridges between China and each Asian country” addressing foreign students of China as “forever, a friend of China”. Through the years, this wish has been spread to students from around the globe. We have felt your commitment to us and are humbled with gratitude as we were welcomed and provided with an extraordinary environment to pursue our dreams in China. In addition, to witness socialism with Chinese characteristics in the flesh was an exclusive awe-inspiring experience of our lives.
Today these forever friends of China are in a precarious situation, that only China can remedy. Our education is on the line, our future is at stake. Confucius saw this truth in saying “What I hear, I forget. What I see, I remember. What I do, I understand”. This Confucian quote reflects the need of the hour for us, the forever friends of China. From the lack of in person quality classes to the inaccessibility of hands-on laboratory experiences, clinical practice, and the possible annulment of our degrees amongst other unknowns. We are in grave desperation.
The distress of foreign students in longing for a date of return to China have led their bright minds to the brink of mental instability, anxiety, and depression.
The slogan “Serve the People” or “Service for the People” etched in the Communist Party of China is a depiction of the purpose of our education, as we hope to serve in various spheres of life. However, we need to complete our theoretical and practical curriculum with utmost integrity, to eliminate possible self-doubts that may arise in our service to humanity.
We stand ready to cooperate with all required medical and epidemic preventive protocols. As forever friends of China, not only do we whole-heartedly believe in the commitment and efforts of the Communist Party of China in this start of a new century, but we also hope we can work together and contribute to achieving world peace and development.
Long live the CPC!
